Patient Data

A 20×14 mm well defined fat density mass is noted at infero-posterior aspect of right kidney. A 3mm similar one is present at lateral aspect of right kidney. Additionally, a 2 mm tiny fat density mass is observed at lateral aspect of left kidney.
An IUD is seen within the uterine cavity in appropriate station.
Case Discussion
Fat containing renal masses; most consistent with angiomyolipoma which is a type of benign renal neoplasm encountered both sporadically and as part of a phakomatosis, most commonly tuberous sclerosis.
On CT scan images most lesions involve the cortex and demonstrate macroscopic fat (less than -20 HU).
