A large mass at the lower right renal pole was seen in a routine sonography of the abdomen. CT scan was performed for further evaluation.

The mass originates from the cortex of the right lower renal pole and has "macroscopic fat" and prominent blood vessels. This is an example of a typical appearence of a renal angiomyolipoma.
Case Discussion
Although small renal angiomyolipomas found incidentally usually do not require therapy, they need follow-up to assess their growth. Large or symptomatic renal angiomyolipomas can be surgically removed or embolized.
