Presentation
Acute kidney failure and hypertension.
Patient Data
Note: This case has been tagged as "legacy" as it no longer meets image preparation and/or other case publication guidelines.
Left intrarenal Doppler examination shows a normal arterial curve with sharp systolic peak and resistance index <0.70
Intrarenal Doppler examination reveals a low resistance index (0.52) in the right kidney with flattened arterial curves (parvus tardus), suggestive for renal artery stenosis by the indirect method. Ostial arterial curves were not obtainable due to important bowel movement artefacts (direct method).
CT angiography on the next day to confirm renal artery stenosis
The diagnosis was confirmed by CT angiography which showed important atherosclerotic calcifications of the right renal artery ostium and a moderate to severe stenosis.
Case Discussion
Renal artery stenosis refers to a narrowing of a renal artery and is a cause of secondary hypertension.
