Presentation

Work up for gross hematuria.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
ct

A 100×85 mm well defined mass with central necrosis is present at the left kidney. There is no sign of local invasion or vascular extension.

Small lymphadenopathy with SAD less than 8 mm are seen at the left para aortic regions.

A 14 mm stone is noted at the lower portion of the left renal collecting system. 

A few nonenhanced simple cortical cysts are seen in the right kidney.

Several stones less than 22 mm are seen at the gallbladder.

Aneurysmal dilatation of the infrarenal aorta is noted up to 38 mm.

Case Discussion

The patient's left nephrectomy and histopathology evaluation confirmed renal cell carcinoma (clear cell subtype).

On imaging, RCCs have a variety of radiographic appearances, from solid and relatively homogeneous to markedly heterogeneous with areas of necrosis, cystic change, and hemorrhage.
