Renal hydatid cyst

Case contributed by Dr Saeed Soltany Hosn

Presentation

Presented with abdominal pain. The ultrasound showed two cystic lesions in the left kidney and right lobe of the liver. CT scan was performed for further evaluation.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female
CT

Unenhaced CT scan shows a large cystic lesion associated with thick wall, internal septations and higher internal density on the left kidney. There is also another cystic lesion on the posterior segments of the right lobe of the liver.

Case Discussion

The crumpled membrane within the cyst makes a renal hydatid most likely. Urine analysis was clear. Serologically proven as hydatid disease.
