Presentation

Low back pain and recent fall. Fracture?

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Multilevel facet joint degenerative change.    Mild degenerative change at L4-L5 and L5-S1.

The end plates of the vertebral bodies are sclerotic with central lucency in keeping with a 'rugger jersey' appearance.

Surgical clips projected over the right side of the pelvis in keeping with a renal transplant.

Case Discussion

The appearances of a rugger jersey spine are due to renal osteodystrophy.

The clips on the right side of the pelvis are consistent with a transplant kidney which reinforce the diagnosis.
