Case contributed by Dr Chris O'Donnell

Presentation

Left loin pain and fever day 2 post ESWL for calculus, ? obstructed kidney

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Male

Non-contrast CT KUB performed as ureteric calculus causing obstruction was suspected clinically. A crescent shape subcapsular hyperdense renal fluid collection is noted.

Case Discussion

ESWL can cause substantial trauma to the kidney and in this case has caused bleeding into the kidney collecting beneath the capsule.  Minor bleeding also in the perinephric fat.  Note fragmentation of the lower pole calyceal calculus.
