Renal tubercolosis

Case contributed by Alberto Nania
Diagnosis almost certain

Presented with proteinuria, US suspected renal mass. CT carried out to evaluate kidney

Patient Data

Age: 60
Gender: Male

The right kidney is edematous, with dilated collecting system and marked perinephric stranding. Scattered areas of calcification are also seen within the right renal parenchyma.

Extensive mediastinal lymph node enlargement with confluent subcarinal lymph node mass.

Case Discussion

The combination of inflammatory changes within the right kidney and mediastinal abnormal lymph nodes favor TB, lymphoma being a less likely diagnosis. This patient underwent tissue diagnosis of the lymph nodes that confirmed TB.
