Repaired aortic coarctation

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Fever and productive cough.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male
x-ray
  • Unusual appearance of the left 5th rib with angulation and flattening.
  • Unfolding and tortuosity of the aorta with loss of aortic knob.

Case Discussion

Further research identified that this patient had a repaired coarctation of the aorta. Note, there is no rib notching or a figure 3 sign due to surgical repair of the coarctation.
