Preterm baby presented with respiratory distress
Patient Data
Bilaterally reduced lung volume.
Diffuse symmetrical reticulogranular densities involving all lung fields.
NG tube seen in an appropriate position.
No pneumothorax.
The ossification centers of both humeral heads are not visualized suggestive of prematurity.
Case Discussion
Respiratory distress syndrome is a relatively common condition that occurs in preterm neonates due to surfactant deficiency.
It is treated by exogenous surfactant administration and oxygen therapy.
