Preterm baby presented with respiratory distress

Patient Data

Age: 1 day
Gender: Female
x-ray

Bilaterally reduced lung volume.
Diffuse symmetrical reticulogranular densities involving all lung fields. 
NG tube seen in an appropriate position.
No pneumothorax.
The ossification centers of both humeral heads are not visualized suggestive of prematurity. 
 

Case Discussion

Respiratory distress syndrome ​is a relatively common condition that occurs in preterm neonates due to surfactant deficiency.
