- lung volumes are mildly decreased
- diffuse hazy lung opacification with diffuse bilateral granular opacities
- orogastric tube, with tip in the stomach
Case Discussion
Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is a consequence of surfactant deficiency in premature infants. It can worsen and improve relatively rapidly. In this case, the diffuse hazy opacification of the lungs indicates relatively severe RDS.
