Preterm neonate, reduced blood oxygen saturation.

Patient Data

Age: 1 day

Supine AP view (mobile)

x-ray

Marked bilateral reduction of transparency due to patchy, granular opacifications which are better appreciated in the rewindowed image. The domes of the diaphragm are also partially obliterated. Bilateral air bronchograms. Slightly bell-shaped thorax suggestive of lung hypoinflation.

Case Discussion

Findings are in line with neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, which was successfully managed with exogenous surfactant administration and oxygen supplementation.
