Presentation

The patient was complaining of fever after discharge from the hospital where he was admitted to ICU for dengue shock syndrome.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
  • Bilateral lower zone non-homogenous opacities.
  • A linear opacity with metallic density is located in the left upper paratracheal area which is crossing the vertebral column and its tip is ending just above the diaphragm along the right heart border.

Case Discussion

Complete loss of the guidewire in the vascular system is usually an avoidable complication. Predisposing factors are usually inattention, inexperienced operators and inadequate supervision of trainees. Although the loss of guidewire in the venae cavae can cause arrhythmias and vascular thrombosis; it is usually asymptomatic.
