Presentation

Left-sided leukocoria.

Patient Data

Age: 17 months
Gender: Female

Contrast enhancing partially calcified posterior intraocular mass, seen on patient's left eye.

No other abnormalities were identified.

Case Discussion

Retinoblastoma is the most common malignant intraocular neoplasm in children 1. The sporadic and hereditary forms of retinoblastoma are recognized.

Tumor can be unilateral (~40% of the cases), bilateral or multilateral (tri or tetralateral). Virtually all bilateral and multilateral cases are hereditary 2.

Most common symptoms are leukocoria and strabismus.

With proper treatment the cure rate is up to 95% to unilateral or bilateral retinoblastoma 2.
