Retroperitoneal haematoma (subcostal artery puncture - percutaneous renal biopsy)

Case contributed by Dr Brendon Friesen

Hypotension post percutaneous left renal biopsy

Patient Data

Age: 70
Gender: Male

Extensive left sided retroperitoneal haematoma (posterior pararenal). No renal or perirenal haematoma.

Location of gas locules along needle tract and associated abdominal wall haematoma suggesting left subcostal artery puncture.

Small volume ascites (near water attenuation - not haemoperitoneum).

Case Discussion

Retroperitoneal haematoma complicating percutaneous renal biopsy (likely subcostal artery puncture).
