Presentation

Left flank pain

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

CT shows a lobulated cystic mass with heterogeneous enhancement located in the left paraaortic area. Small simple cysts in bilateral kidney. 

CT-guided percutaneous retroperitoneal mass biopsy was performed with the prone position approach.

pathology

Tumor cells arranging in a solid pattern with a large granule and basophilic cytoplasm. The cell nuclei are variable in size with prominent nucleoli. The cells positively react with Chromogranin and Synaptophysin

Case Discussion

This case demonstrated typical findings of a retroperitoneal paraganglioma. The cystic mass located in the left paraaortic area. The histopathology has confirmed the diagnosis.
