Retroperitoneal paraganglioma

Presentation

Palpitations and hypertension.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

A 34× 28 mm well-defined oval-shaped enhancing mass is noted between the IVC and the right kidney. The right adrenal gland could be defined separately from than mentioned mass.

pathology

The patient underwent retroperitoneal mass resection, and histopathology and IHC evaluation confirmed paraganglioma.

Case Discussion

Paragangliomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors arising from paraganglia, and abdominal extra-adrenal paragangliomas usually originate from the organ of Zuckerkandl.

It should notice that malignancy is defined as evidence of metastases, and histopathologically there are no reliable markers of malignant potential.
