Retrovesical hydatid cyst

Presentation

H/o pelvic pain and increased frequency of micturition.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
ct

Non-contrast CT abdomen study shows a large well-defined thin-walled multilocular cystic lesion in recto-vesical space causing mass effect on the urinary bladder. No evidence of calcifications/fat content within the lesion. These features are consistent with hydatid cyst.

No other similar morphology lesions were noted.

Case Discussion

Intraperitoneal hydatid cysts can be primary or secondary. In our case, the rectovesical space hydatid cyst was not associated with hydatid cysts elsewhere in abdominal cavity. Hence, this is likely to be primary pelvic hydatid cyst.
