Reverse Barton fracture with scaphoid and metacarpal fractures

Patient Data

Gender: Male

Intra-articular fracture of the distal radius with volar displacement of the carpal bones. Fractured scaphoid waist. Fractured base of the 3rd and 4th metacarpals.

Case Discussion

Barton fractures are distal radius fractures that extend to the articular surface with dislocation of the carpal bones. They can be classified as volar-type Barton fracture, in which the carpal bones are displaced anterior or dorsal-type Barton fracture, in which the carpal bones are displaced posteriorly.
