The physes are widened with metaphyseal flaring. Note how the bones are coarse.

Typical appearances of rickets in a young child. Rickets is due to decreased synthesis of the active form of vitamin D and has fairly characteristic appearances. It can be considered as osteomalacia in the skeletally immature.
