Ultrasound of the right breast shows a thick walled mixed echogenicity lesion at the 8 o'clock radian right breast. the lesion has post echo enhancement with low level internal echos.
Case Discussion
This is a complex cystic structure with a thick wall.
If you go into the room the breast is swollen tender and the skin is red, this is a breast abscess. Very tender to the touch.
The teaching point is that almost without exception, problem solving breast ultrasound requires the radiologist to review the lesion in real time.
This lesion cleared up after needle aspiration and antibiotic therapy.
