Right hyperlucent hemithorax - mastectomy

Non-exertional shortness of breath.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female


Right-sided mastectomy.

Mixed attenuation round lesion mainly of soft tissue density is seen involving the right middle lobe, considering the patient's history of breast cancer, further characterization of the lesion by chest CT is advised.

Bilateral cardiophrenic angles blunting more pronounced on the right side.

Calcified aortic knuckle with unfolding of the aorta.

Case Discussion

A 65-year old lady presenting with shortness of breath. X-ray by the treating team was requested and show blunting of both costophrenic angles. Hyperlucent right hemithorax was noted due to mastectomy. Unfortunately, the patient did not undergo a high-resolution chest CT.
