Right iliac wing fracture - Duverney fracture

Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Fallen on his right hip a day before. Tenderness and hematoma at right dorsal ilium. Stable pelvic ring. Pain during right lower extremity movements. No internal organ injury.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Trauma patient 1st admission

x-ray

A slight transparent line is seen on the right iliac crest which is best seen on the AP view.

Enlarged images 1st admission

On the magnified images the fracture line is better visible.

Control exam 10 days later

Fracture line is more clearly visible on the control images.

Control exam 1 mth later

x-ray

Callus is clearly seen on both projections.

Case Discussion

 

Iliac wing fractures are very uncommon. An isolated iliac wing fracture is a stable benign injury and can be managed conservatively. Serious and potentially life-threatening associated abdominal, vascular and/or neurological injuries should be excluded.
