Right obstructing VUJ stone (horseshoe kidney)

Presentation

Right sided flank pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 year-old
Gender: Male

Impacted and obstructing 6 mm calculus of the distal right ureter. There is associated marked pelvicalyceal dilation of the malrotated right kidney. Variant renal anatomy
with a partially fused horseshoe kidney inferior to the SMA. The malrotated left
kidney contains multiple non-obstructing calyceal calculi. No intracystic calculus.

Extending from the medial limb of the right adrenal gland, there is a 21 mm
indeterminate attenuation adrenal lesion.

Case Discussion

This gentleman presented to emergency with right sided renal colic. 

CT showed right-sided distal ureteric calculus with associated hydroureter and hydronephrosis. Incidental finding of variant renal anatomy (horseshoe kidney).

This patient underwent cystoscopic insertion of a right sided ureteric stent.
