Right occipital sinus with atretic right transverse sinus

Case contributed by Dr Rupesh Namdev

Headache, giddiness for past 6 months

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Female

Occipital sinus is seen on right side draining into right internal jugular vein. The right transverse and right sigmoid sinuses are atretic. The left transverse and sigmoid sinuses are patent.

Case Discussion

Occipital sinuses are the smallest of all cerebral dural venous sinuses and recognised in approximately 10% of normal population. They may be unilateral as well as bilateral. When seen unilaterally they are associated with absence or hypoplasia of transverse and sigmoid sinuses on that side.
