Pain and swelling with bruising over the right 2nd toe proximal phalanx and 2nd metatarsal bone distal area after the patient accidentally hit a wooden object.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Right 2nd toe proximal phalanx head comminuted fracture is noted with intra-articular extension

Case Discussion

Most phalanx fractures happen due to direct trauma, as in this case. 

The intra-articular extension in phalanx fractures has a bad prognosis, which is mostly accompanied by post-traumatic osteoarthritis
