Near arch of the aorta is right-sided. Heart size and shape within normal limits. Lung fields are unremarkable.
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates the finding of a right-sided aortic arch.
Learning points:
- right-sided aortic arch is an anatomical variant with the arch of the aorta traversing to the right of the trachea
- right-sided aortic arch is rare, occurring in ~0.1% of the general population
- CXR findings consistent with right-sided aortic arch include:
- 'mass' in the right paratracheal region
- absence of left aortic contour
- left tracheal deviation at the aortic arch
- presence of right-sided descending thoracic aorta
