Routine chest x-ray.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Frontal projection demonstrates a right-sided aortic arch and descending aorta. The trachea is not deviated to the right. On the orthogonal view, there is mild posterior impression on the tracheal air column.

The heart is not enlarged. 

The lungs are clear.

A right-sided aortic arch is a type of aortic anomaly or variant, wherein the aortic arch courses the right side of the trachea and over the right main bronchus. It can be seen in 0.05% to 0.1% of chest radiographic examinations and in 0.04%-0.1% of autopsy series 1,2.
