Presentation

Fever and cough.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years.
Gender: Female

Cavitary mass right upper lobe.

Right upper lobe cavity with peripheral enhancement and surrounding consolidation. Mild retained secretions mid-trachea.

Case Discussion

One could argue that this case represents a cavitary pneumonia, but there is a thin enhancing wall around the cavity making this an abscess with surrounding pneumonia.
