Presentation
On haemodialysis due to an end-stage renal disease that has rapidly progressed over the past 5 years, as a result of a familiar chronic renal disease. Otherwise asymptomatic.
Patient Data

Arterial-phase contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic CT shows bilateral diffuse renal atrophy in keeping with known end-stage chronic renal failure.
Sagittal bone window images of the spine demonstrate sclerosis of the vertebral body endplates with central vertebral lucency. This produces the classic spine rugger jersey appearance.
Case Discussion
The term renal osteodystrophy represents a wide range of bone disorders resulting from chronic renal failure. Rugger jersey spine, which is caused by osteosclerosis in the superior and inferior vertebral endplates, is one of the most characteristic radiologic signs of renal osteodystrophy.
