Presentation
Sudden pain and audible snap in the left heel while playing volleyball.
Patient Data
Rupture of Achilles tendon measuring about 7 cm tendon gap with a distal stump and retraction of the proximal end.
The fluid signal and edematous changes in place of the normal tendon.
Abnormal intrasubstance increased fluid signal and thickening along with anterior talofibular ligament related to ATFL chronic sprain.
Fluid signal around the ankle posteromedial tendons (PTT, FDL, and FHL ) suggestive of tenosynovitis.
Case Discussion
Complete traumatic rupture of the Achilles tendon type IV (complete rupture with a defect of >6 cm) according to Kuwada classification of Achilles tendon tear is well demonstrated in this case.
