- no intrauterine gestation seen
- no gestational sac, yolk sac or embryo seen
- extensive free fluid within the pouch of Douglas noted
- there is a heterogenous vascular mass within the pouch of Douglas
- arterial and venous doppler waveforms were demonstrated within this vascular mass
Case Discussion
The appearance observed on the pelvic ultrasound show features consistent with ruptured ectopic pregnancy.
No serum B-hCG levels were available at the time of the scan. She was transferred to the Emergency Department following the scan findings.
The patient underwent an urgent laparoscopic left salpingectomy for ectopic tubal pregnancy. Intra-operative findings reported that blood was noted on peritoneal entry and an abnormally dilated left tube, consistent with tubal ectopic. A histology report later confirmed this.
