Ruptured gallbladder

Presentation

High-speed motor vehicle collision.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male
ct

Free intraperitoneal hyperdense fluid in keeping with hemoperitoneum. 

Contrast extravasation within the gallbladder where there is a large hematoma and gallbladder rupture with hematoma located within and external to the gallbladder.

Possible grade 1 splenic laceration superiorly. Small volume perisplenic fluid. 

Case Discussion

The patient proceeded to laparotomy, which confirmed the gallbladder rupture. This is an uncommon injury in blunt abdominal trauma and most often occurs in combination with other injuries.
