Ruptured intracranial aneurysm

Presentation

Five days of headache. High blood pressure.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Aneurysm n the supraclinoid segment of the right internal carotid artery with the long size 8 mm, the neck diameter 3 mm. Intraxial subacute hematoma in right frontal lobe, that is compressing right frontal lobe and right lateral ventricle, causing shift of 9-10 mm in this section from center to the left. Also, there is subacute hematoma in the right lateral ventricle, third and fourth ventricle.

Case Discussion

Although statistically it can be argued that small aneurysms, even with a diameter of less than 8 mm, have a low yearly chance of rupture but as shown in this case, even such a small lesion can cause a severe medical condition.

Also, given how much more common small aneurysms are, a large proportion of all aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages are from small aneurysms.
