Focal full-thickness defect with swelling and fluid in the ilio-tibial band, lateral to the greater trochanter
Case Discussion
Traumatic rupture of the proximal ilio-tibial band is rare and in this case due to direct impact. The distal and proximal ilio-tibial bands are subject to friction with swelling and pain in some athletes. Rarely spontaneous rupture can occur following steroid injection for treatment of such symptoms.
