S1 nerve root schwannoma

mri

There is an ovoid lesion associated with the left S1 nerve root as it exits the neural foramen in the left posterior pelvis.  It measures 4.3cm X 3.2cm X 3.7cm.

It is hypointense on T1-weighted sequences, and heterogenously hyperintense on T2-weighted sequences.  It demonstrates heterogenous enhancement with a central cystic area following administration of contrast.  There is a tail of enhancing tissue at the lesion's proximal end which extends along the S1 nerve in the foramen.

The findings are compatible with a nerve sheath tumor, such as a schwannoma.

Acquired on a 1.5T Toshiba Titan.
