Case Discussion

A saber was a heavy cavalry sword with a curved blade as shown here.

The distinct curved shape of the saber is the basis of its use in the saber shin deformity sign.

The saber sheath trachea sign is based upon the distinctive cross sectional shape of the blade and hence sheath of the saber which is wide in long axis yet very narrow in the short axis.

En coup de saber, a synonym for linear scleroderma alludes to the appearance of a frontoparietal scar as if one had been struck by a saber.
