Case Discussion

A sabre was a heavy cavalry sword with a curved blade as shown here.

The distinct curved shape of the sabre is the basis of its use in the sabre shin deformity sign.

The sabre sheath trachea sign is based upon the distinctive cross sectional shape of the blade and hence sheath of the sabre which is wide in long axis yet very narrow in the short axis.

En coup de sabre, a synonym for linear scleroderma alludes to the appearance of a frontoparietal scar as if one had been struck by a sabre.
