Sclerotic vertebral endplates, multiple insufficiency fractures and sacroiliac joint subperiosteal resorption and erosions in keeping with renal osteodystrophy. No destructive bony lesion demonstrated. Right hemiarthroplasty noted.
Severely atrophic kidneys. Extensive arterial calcification.
Other abdominal findings (SBO as the cause of abdominal pain) are not of importance to this case example of SIJ disease secondary to renal osteodystrophy.
Case Discussion
SIJ disease secondary to renal osteodystrophy mainly features as joint space widening, erosions and subperiosteal resorption. Partial ankylosis may occur but is uncommon. Other features of renal osteodystrophy in the spine are almost always present.
