Salter-Harris type II fracture - proximal phalanx

The frontal view shows no apparent bony abnormality, while on the lateral view the dorsal aspect of the physis of the proximal phalanx has opened up, while a subtle cortical buckling can also be discerned on the palmar aspect of its metaphysis.

Case Discussion
The fracture of the physis is apparent, while the metaphyseal involvement is more discrete and requires carefuly scrutiny, especially since true Salter-Harris I fractures have a much lower incidence than type II injuries.
