Presentation

Chest pain and dyspnea.

Patient Data

Age: 18 years
Gender: Male

PET-CT

ct

Multiple enlarged FDG avid mediastinal lymph nodes.

No pulmonary changes.

Splenomegaly.

Radiological findings were suggestive of sarcoidosis versus lymphoma.

CT guided biopsy of the anterior mediastinal nodes revealed sarcoidosis.

Case Discussion

Sarcoidosis is characteristically FDG-avid, and PET-CT has been shown to have high sensitivity for thoracic disease. FDG-PET-CT may be useful for

  • identification of occult sites of disease

  • identifying a suitable target for diagnostic biopsy

  • gauging active inflammatory disease in patients with prolonged symptoms

  • assessing response to treatment
