Presentation
Incidental mass found on CT for abdominal pain.
Patient Data

FDG PET-CT shows a retrocrural mass with intense FDG avidity. Lesion is homogenous, hypodense and without macroscopic fat or calcifications. There are no pathological lymph nodes or other evidence of disease spread. Lesion went on to surgical biopsy which revealed a sarcoma.
A needle biopsy showed spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma.
Treatment plan for neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy followed by surgery.
Case Discussion
Soft tissue sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors arising from the mesenchymal elements of fat, muscle, connective tissue, vessels, and peripheral nerves.
FDG PET-CT can be helpful for the assessment of metastatic disease as well as local recurrence.
