Scapho-lunate ganglia and lunotriquetral coalition

Presentation

Non-traumatic right wrist pain - dorsal aspect. Radiograph of wrist - Not available.

Patient Data

Age: about 30 yrs
Gender: Male

Multiple short axis images of dorsal wrist at scapho-lunate joint region.

A cystic focus is noted sitting over scapho-lunate joint - ganglia.

Inhomogeneous echopattern of scapho-lunate ligament is noted.

Affected side Lunate appears to be ' very large ' due to luno-triquetral coalition.

Comparision with opposite side shows normal luno-triquetral articulation cleft.

X-ray

Follow up after about 1 mth for increaing pain.

Fusion of lunate and triquetral bones.

Ultrasound

Follow up after about 1 mth for increaing pain.

Ganglia has increased in size in comparison to previous USG.

Case Discussion

Findings favour scapho-lunate ganglia - most common site in wrist.

An incidental finding of luno-triquetral coalition.
