Scaphoid fracture - initially occult

Presentation

A young snowboarder injures his left wrist.

Patient Data

Age: Adolescent
Gender: Male

No acute osseous injury seen a day after the injury. Note the obliteration of the scaphoid fat pad.

X-ray

8 days later

Scaphoid fracture in good position.

Case Discussion

With a high clinical suspicion for a scaphoid fracture, repeat imaging is mandatory.
