Scaphoid fracture: Mayo middle type

30 years male with pain left wrist after fall on an outstretched hand

Patient Data

Age: 30 Years
Gender: Male

There is a linear radiolucency along the waist of the scaphoid bone. Gilula three carpal arcs is normal.

Case Discussion

Scaphoid fracture is classified into 3 types according to anatomical location of fracture line (Mayo classification):

Middle (70%) - also in this case

Distal (20%)

Proximal (10%)


Scaphoid fracture is associated with avascular necrosis of the proximal pole.
