Scaphoid fracture with early AVN

Case contributed by Dr Andrew Dixon

30 year old male 6 weeks following following wrist trauma.

Case Discussion

CT wrist shows an un-united fracture through the waist of the scaphoid. There is subtle sclerosis of the proximal scaphoid pole relative to the distal pole suggesting early avascular necrosis as a complication of the fracture. AVN is an indication for surgical management of the fracture to help prevent future dysfunction.
