Presentation

Chronic wrist pain after trauma 2 months ago.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

An undisplaced fracture line through the scaphoid waist is seen.

Subtle sclerosis is seen along with the scaphoid proximal pole.

  • an undisplaced scaphoid waist fracture

  • subtle sclerosis of the scaphoid proximal pole could be due to an early avascular necrosis

  • no scapholunate interval widening

  • no other injury

Case Discussion

Imaging findings show an undisplaced fracture through the waist of the scaphoid associated with subtle sclerosis along with the proximal pole suggestive of early avascular necrosis.
