One small lobule of deep fat protrudes through a defect in the Scarpa fascia. The defect measures 6x11 mm.

Case Discussion

The finding corresponds to a Scarpa fascia hernia.

From superficial to deep, the layers of the anterolateral abdominal wall include the skin, Camper superficial fascia (subcutaneous fat), Scarpa deep fascia (membranous fascia), deep fat, abdominal wall muscles, transversalis fascia, extraperitoneal fat, and parietal peritoneum 1.

Only one reported case of Scarpa fascia hernia was found 2. However, the latter must be taken into account within abdominal wall hernias.
