SCC metastasis to the kidney

PH od SCC lung (treated with surgery). Now left loin pain

Patient Data

Age: 60 years old
Gender: Female
Modality: Ultrasound

Typical hypoechoic mass with peripheral blood flow ? atypical cyst or unusual solid lesion

CT could not be performed as patient has had anaphylactic reaction to iodinated radiographic contrast. 


Modality: MRI

Typical peripherally enhancing solid mass as seen in renal cell carcinoma

PET scan performed some 12 months previously

Modality: Nuclear medicine

Hot spot at right hilum at the site of primary malignancy on PET/CT. Left kidney is normal.

Case Discussion

Mass lesion in left kidney looks like a renal cell carcinoma but the PET scan was normal some 12 months previously so it has grown very quickly thus biopsy was performed and showed a metastatic lesion from lung.
