Schistosomiasis causing bladder and appendix calcification

Presentation

Patient presented with a 3 month history of haematuria.

Patient Data

Age: 57
Gender: Male

Extensive calcification of the bladder, both ureters (rim only) and the appendix. The pelvicalyceal systems are spared. 

Case Discussion

Bladder calcification is a well documented complication of chronic Schistosoma haematobium. This case highlights how other abdominal organs can be involved.
